Large Format Tiles for Almost Seamless Rooms
Large format tiles have become an important element of modern architecture and interior design. Their generous dimensions significantly reduce the number of grout lines required, allowing floors and walls to appear calmer, more spacious and almost continuous. Anyone searching for a seamless room, a seamless bathroom or a clean and continuous wall or floor design can use large format porcelain tiles as a durable ceramic alternative.
At VITALE TILES, you can discover large format tiles and XXL porcelain slabs in a wide range of colours, finishes and designs. Depending on the collection, sizes include 60 × 120 cm, 120 × 120 cm, 120 × 240 cm, 120 × 280 cm and particularly large slabs measuring up to 160 × 320 cm.
Can large format tiles really be installed without grout lines?
The term “seamless tiles” is commonly used, but ceramic tiles are technically not installed completely without joints. Even very large rectified porcelain slabs require narrow grout joints, as well as movement and perimeter joints depending on the size and construction of the surface.
The main difference is the number of joints required. A surface made from small tiles contains many individual pieces, whereas a large format slab can cover a substantial area with very few interruptions.
This creates an almost seamless or low-joint appearance.
The effect can be particularly impressive on large walls. A 120 × 280 cm or 160 × 320 cm slab can cover a substantial part of a bathroom wall. Instead of numerous horizontal and vertical grout lines, the result is a calm and continuous surface.
Large format tiles for bathrooms
Bathrooms are one of the most popular applications for large format tiles. Large slabs reduce visual interruptions and can make both small and spacious bathrooms appear calmer and more generous.
In modern showers, XXL tiles can create an almost seamless appearance. Large wall slabs behind a washbasin, inside a shower or across the full height of a wall create clean surfaces and allow the structure and design of the ceramic material to stand out.
To coordinate floors and walls, large format tiles can be combined with suitable
floor tiles or
wall tiles.
Fewer grout lines also offer a practical advantage: less grout surface needs to be cleaned and maintained.
A seamless look for living rooms and open-plan interiors
Large format tiles are not limited to bathrooms. They are particularly effective in open-plan living and dining areas.
Using the same large format tile across a kitchen, dining area and living room can visually connect the different spaces. Fewer grout lines make the floor appear calmer and can contribute to a more spacious overall impression.
For minimalist interiors, large
concrete and cement look tiles are particularly suitable. If you prefer a more natural design, our
stone look tiles include ceramic interpretations of limestone, slate and many other natural stones.
Large format marble look tiles
Large formats are particularly well suited to marble effects. The larger the ceramic slab, the more space the veining has to develop across the surface.
This makes it possible to create wall surfaces that visually resemble large natural stone slabs. With strongly veined designs, several slabs can also be arranged so that the pattern flows harmoniously across a larger surface.
Our
Marble Look Tiles range from classic Carrara and Calacatta interpretations to dark, green and particularly expressive marble designs.
XXL tiles up to 160 × 320 cm
Modern ceramic manufacturing technology makes it possible to produce porcelain slabs in dimensions that were once largely associated with natural stone.
The VITALE TILES range includes large formats such as:
60 × 120 cm
120 × 120 cm
120 × 240 cm
120 × 260 cm
120 × 278 cm
120 × 280 cm
160 × 320 cm
The ideal format depends on the room size, wall height, floor plan, windows, doors and the desired positioning of the grout lines.
The largest slab is therefore not automatically the best option for every project. A carefully planned layout using a slightly smaller format can sometimes create a better visual result while also reducing unnecessary cutting and material waste.
Large format porcelain tiles for floors and walls
Many of our large format tiles are made from porcelain stoneware. The material is fired at high temperatures and combines low water absorption with high resistance and an easy-care surface.
Depending on the individual product, large format porcelain tiles can be used in bathrooms, kitchens, living areas, entrances, retail spaces, hotels and numerous other residential or commercial interiors.
You can find additional information about porcelain stoneware, tile sizes, slip resistance and installation in our extensive
Tile FAQ.
Large ceramic slabs for kitchens and furniture
Large ceramic slabs can be used for much more than traditional floors and walls. Depending on the collection, thin large-format slabs can also be used to clad kitchen islands, worktops, tables, furniture, washbasins and other customised interior elements.
Marble, stone and concrete effects make it possible to create coordinated design concepts in which the same material appearance is repeated across several surfaces.
The same ceramic surface can, for example, be used on a wall, washbasin and selected pieces of furniture to create a particularly coherent interior.
Do large tiles also work in small rooms?
Yes. The common assumption that large tiles are only suitable for large rooms is not generally correct.
Large format tiles can be particularly effective in small bathrooms. Fewer grout lines visually divide floors and walls less strongly, which can make the room appear calmer and more spacious.
Careful planning is important. Sanitary fittings, niches, windows, doors and wall dimensions should be considered before ordering so that unnecessary small cuts can be avoided wherever possible.
What should be considered when installing large format tiles?
The larger a ceramic slab becomes, the greater the requirements for the substrate, transportation, cutting and installation.
The substrate should be particularly level and sufficiently stable. XXL slabs generally require professional cutting, handling and lifting equipment. The position of the grout lines should also be carefully planned in advance.
For slabs measuring several metres in length, we therefore recommend installation by an experienced professional tiler.
